I get asked a lot by friends, family members, and randoms online, “Don’t you miss eating *insert random non-vegan food*?” And I almost always answer, “No, I just eat the vegan version of it.” They always have a million questions after that. “How? What’s in it? Is peanut butter vegan? But it can’t be good for you, it’s fake right?”
It is kinda crazy that you can make ANYTHING vegan, especially if you picture vegans just eating grass, but it’s true! Anything you can make I can make vegan, and today I am going to teach you how!
How to Make ANYTHING Vegan
If you’re craving something, say lasagna, but you’re not sure how to make it vegan and still taste like grandma’s lasagna, CHECK PINTEREST for recipes!! I’ve found some amazing recipes on Pinterest and I pin them to my Good Eats board to save them for later. I’ve found so many gems on Pinterest and even nonvegan recipes that I’ve modified to make vegan but switching out the nonvegan foods for vegan foods. It’s so easy and all of the food still tastes delicious!
If your mom’s Christmas cookies are your favorite in the world, but they aren’t vegan, don’t worry! Check the OG recipe, identify what ingredients are NOT vegan, and then seek out vegan alternatives. For example, if a baked good recipe has two eggs on it, just replaces it with Ener-G Egg Replacer or one of the many egg alternatives! I use flax egg sometimes, or a mashed up banana also works well in baked goods. If I’m making a savory dish and it requires eggs, I will use the flax or Ener-G Egg Replacer. The more you cook and bake vegan, the easier it gets!
#3: Pre-Made Food
If you’re like me, you’re a #LazyGal, and the thought of making food from scratch for every meal makes you never want to cook again. With the rise of veganism, lots of companies are releasing new vegan products that are delicious and easy to make. Check out brands like Gardein, Beyond Meat, So Delicious, Daiya, Follow Your Heart (or Earth Island) and many more!
#4: Check Ingredients
A lot of premade or boxed mixes of foods are already vegan! For example, most of Dunkin Heinz boxed cake and canned frostings are vegan (like the cupcakes in my picture above!). Just replace the milk, oil, and eggs with a can of soda and then bake like normal! Or if you want the full experience, use plant milk, vegetable oil, and a vegan egg of some kind! #5: No Meat? No Problem!
I get asked a lot, “Don’t you miss meat? What about bacon?!” All I have to say is, “Uhh, I still eat that, but VEGAN!” There are so many vegan meat options, like sooo many. Vegan burgers, vegan bacon, vegan ham, vegan pepperoni, vegan shrimp, vegan crab, vegan salmon burgers, vegan meatballs, and SO MUCH MORE! Gardein is probably one of my favorite brands, they have so many options for vegan meats and meals. Beyond meat is a close second, they have the Beyond Burger and it tastes EXACTLY like animal meat (according to meat eaters) and it’s SO much better for you. I promise you won’t even miss meat!
